On Thursday March 28th, our McGuire Center team was able to be a part of Innovation Day, in the Main Ballroom, at the Student Union. The goal of the day is to bring the community together to highlight innovative new companies in the Tucson area. Attendees included many of the Desert Angel investment organization, and other community supporters. Overall the day was challenging and rewarding at the same time.
Planning for Innovation Day starts at the beginning of January. Each McGuire Team is given $100 and challenged to stretch every penny as far as possible, after all this is an entrepreneurship program. Our team was lucky enough to find a Groupon listed in another state for an online print company. As a result we acquired $300 worth of shirts and banners, for only $90, leaving us $10 for business cards and fliers. The day before Innovation Day we were allowed to visit our booths to set up, and make any last minute changes in our game plan. Our group pre-hung all banners and mocked up equipment in the early afternoon on this day. The next morning we came to school at 7:30 and tested all equipment, for one last run before “game-time”.
During the trade show, our team was able to talk with many people who enjoyed learning about our product and focus. Time flew by as we pitched to over 100 people in two hours, resulting in many good contacts as we move forward.
